2023學年「設計原理應用：瓷磚」短期課程回顧

3月6日-3月17日，英国王储基金会传统艺术学院中国中心的学员们在传统艺术学院导师李冉的指导下，完成了为期两周的传统艺术课程「设计原理应用：艺术瓷砖」这一单元的学习。

The module “Design Principles applied to Ceramic Tiles” was delivered by tutor Li Ran from the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts at Yuan Centre on 6 - 17 March.

本课程通过理论和实践引导学生们了解中东文化及中国文化在传统陶瓷工艺中以图案为主题的表现形式，鼓励学生们从实践中领会如何将设计在瓷砖等媒介上以绘画形式得以最终呈现。在实践过程中，学生们亲手参与试验砖测试、媒介转换、绘制、施釉、烧窑等工序，通过每日大量练习不断精进陶瓷绘画技巧，在作品绘制的过程中逐步掌握陶瓷材料的属性、绘制流程、不同技法的操作，并通过各自大量的作品对比逐渐看到自己在实践过程中体现的优点及欠缺，使作品在新的实践中得以提高。

The main objective of the module was introducing students to experience the expressions on the design motifs and patterns on traditional ceramic craft shared by Islamic and Chinese cultures through theoretical and practical participation, students were encouraged to learn how to successfully transfer, paint, and present design motifs onto ceramic forms such as tiles. Through practicing, students participated in process including glaze testing, medium exchanging, ceramic painting, glaze applying, kiln firing, etc. Their painting skills were developed through massive daily practice, knowledge of characters of materials and painting techniques were gradually gained from various of works. Students also explored the advantages and places to be developed on their works through regular reviews, new development could be found in new practice.
